Holiday Return Policy

  • Purchases made between 10/10/2021 and 12/25/2021 may be returned through 1/25/2022.
  • Our normal return policy will apply to all purchases made beginning 12/26/2021.

Updates on our Return Policy

Returns By Mail:

  • Our return policies are always subject to local, state and federal restrictions.
  • You may return Merchandise purchased online to any open T.J.Maxx store within 40 days of your order date.
  • Alternatively, merchandise purchased online can be returned using our return-by-mail option. Due to the additional health and wellness practices we have introduced to our online fulfillment center, you may experience delays in the processing of returns.
  • All other terms of our standard Return Policy apply.

Oversized items, based on size and/or weight of the product, may have a shipping surcharge cost in addition to standard delivery and processing charges. Shipping and handling costs and shipping surcharges are non-refundable.

Not what you had in mind? Not a problem. Returns are absolutely free in store and so easy by mail.

If you're not satisfied with your online purchase, don’t hesitate to return it within 40 days of your order date, unless otherwise noted on the packing slip. We accept returns with either your receipt or your shipping confirmation email. The packing slip you receive with your order is your receipt.

Before placing your return, check if your item is eligible for return, as some items may be final sale or subject to additional return restrictions. You can find this information in the returns column of your receipt.  (This information also appears on the product description page, so you may review it before making your purchase.) Also, be sure to review the specific terms for your preferred method of return (either by mail or in store).

Please note that items purchased at tjmaxx.com can only be returned to a T.J. Maxx store or to the T.J. Maxx online warehouse, in accordance with this return policy. Items purchased at tjmaxx.com may not be returned to Marshalls or any of our other sister brands.

returning by mail
Returns by mail are accepted if they arrive at our warehouse within 40 days of your order date. For an easy return by mail, use the return shipping label we’ve included on your receipt (a return shipping and handling fee of $10.99 will be deducted from your refund or store credit) and drop off at the shipping carrier indicated on your return label. Be sure to include your receipt (or a copy of your shipping confirmation email) in your package. Returns that arrive at the warehouse more than 40 days after the original order date will receive merchandise credit. To avoid return shipping and handling costs, you can bring your online purchase to a T.J.Maxx store near you.


returning in store
In store returns, which are also subject to the above restrictions, are accepted within 40 days of your order date. If your purchase is eligible for an in store return, bring your item(s) and either your receipt or shipping confirmation email to your nearest Store Location
Your signature is required for any in store return. For returns without a receipt, you’ll need to provide a valid government issued photo ID, name, address, and signature. To learn about how we use and handle your information, please see our Privacy Policy.


issuance of refunds
All refunds will be credited to your original form of payment or merchandise credit as follows:
  • With a receipt/packing slip or shipping confirmation email within 40 days of your order date will receive a cash refund or charge credit.
  • With a receipt/packing slip or shipping confirmation email more than 40 days after your order date will receive merchandise credit.
  • With a gift receipt will receive merchandise credit.
  • Without a receipt/packing slip or shipping confirmation email will receive merchandise credit.
  • Items purchased partly or entirely with a T.J. Maxx Gift Card will receive merchandise credit when they are returned. This credit is redeemable at any T.J.Maxx location.
  • Return shipping and handling fees are non-refundable, unless the merchandise is defective.


in store issued merchandise credit terms
Merchandise credits are subject to the Terms and Conditions printed thereon and imposed by the issuer which may include restrictions on transfers.  A valid government issued photo ID, name, address, and signature are required for non-receipted returns and may be required for use of the resulting merchandise credit. Any name printed on the merchandise credit must match the name on the photo ID presented or the merchandise credit may not be used.

refund processing time

  • For returns by mail, your account will be credited within 10 to 14 business days after we've received your qualifying tjmaxx.com return, in most cases, depending on your bank and/or billing cycle. Merchandise credits will be issued for eligible returns after we’ve received the return.
  • Returns in store will be refunded to the original form of payment or merchandise credit on the spot. Please note, it may take a few days until your bank posts the refund to your account.

PayPal returns
  • In Store: Purchases made with PayPal and that are returned to a T.J.Maxx store will receive any refund in the form of a merchandise credit.
  • By Mail: Purchases made with PayPal that are returned by mail will receive charge credit, minus the $10.99 return shipping and handling fee.

 Apple Pay® Returns
  • Customers will need to show their receipt or email confirmation at the register showing Apple as a tender type.
    • If the customer is not able to provide either, follow current process for refunds.
  • Store associate will ask customer if they have the physical credit card they used for the Apple Pay purchase.
  • If the customer has the credit card used for the Apple Pay purchase, the associate can refund that card.
  • If the customer does not have the credit card used for the Apple Pay purchase, the associate will follow the current store operations process and submit the refund to any card.

exceptions & special instructions
  • Merchandise bought in store cannot be returned online
  • Merchandise that is used, worn, or in unsellable condition will not be accepted for refund or merchandise credit.
  • Unfortunately, many retailers are subject to fraudulent return activity. Returns may also be limited or declined based upon our refund verification systems, which are used to process and track returns to help administer our loss prevention program.
  • Items over $1000 are not eligible for in store return
  • Handbags over $499.99 are not eligible for in store return
  • Long occasion gowns are not eligible for in store return
  • Beauty items opened or tampered with cannot be returned
  • Other restrictions may apply

gift cards
Gift cards are not eligible for returns.


Due to our ever-changing inventory, exchanges are not available for online orders.
