Why did you apply sales tax to my online order?
When a company has a presence within a state or states, they are required to collect and remit sales taxes through Nexus. Because the TJX Companies, Inc. has a presence all over the US, all items sold and shipped within the United States will be subject to any applicable state sales tax.
Your sales tax will be calculated and applied based on the "ship to" address you provide at checkout and will be based on the rate set by local, state and/or county tax law. If the state in which your "ship to" address is located does not impose a sales tax, we will not collect these charges at checkout. Likewise, certain items will be excluded from sales tax. Those items vary by state.
The tax displayed at checkout is only an estimate, and the final applicable tax will be calculated when your order is shipped.
Please visit your state's Department of Revenue or taxation website for more information on which goods are subject to sales tax, its current sales tax rate, and other useful information.
What if I live outside the US and use a forwarding service to receive my items? Will I be charged US state sales tax?
Yes. The forwarding service will be your "ship to" address in this instance. If the state in which the forwarding service is located does not impose a state sales tax, you will not incur these charges at checkout.
Why was I charged a delivery fee in addition to tax and shipping?
In Colorado, there is a state mandated fee called “Colorado Retail Delivery Fee.” This fee applies to any retail sale that includes at least one item of tangible personal property taxable in Colorado, and is delivered by motor vehicle, regardless of whether shipping was free. Please visit the Colorado Department of Revenue for more detailed information.
In Minnesota, there is a state mandated fee called “Road Improvement and Food Delivery Fee.” This fee applies to certain transactions involving retail delivery in Minnesota where charges for these items equal or exceed $100. Please visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue for more detailed information.
