Sales Tax Policy

Why did you apply sales tax to my online order?

When a company has a presence within a state or states, they are required to collect and remit sales taxes through Nexus. Because the TJX Companies, Inc. has a presence all over the US, all items sold and shipped within the United States will be subject to any applicable state sales tax.

Your sales tax will be calculated and applied based on the "ship to" address you provide at checkout and will be based on the rate set by local, state and/or county tax law. If the state in which your "ship to" address is located does not impose a sales tax, we will not collect these charges at checkout. Likewise, certain items will be excluded from sales tax. Those items vary by state.

The tax displayed at checkout is only an estimate, and the final applicable tax will be calculated when your order is shipped.

Please visit your state's Department of Revenue or taxation website for more information on which goods are subject to sales tax, its current sales tax rate, and other useful information.

What if I live outside the US and use a forwarding service to receive my items? Will I be charged US state sales tax?

Yes. The forwarding service will be your "ship to" address in this instance. If the state in which the forwarding service is located does not impose a state sales tax, you will not incur these charges at checkout.

Which states do not charge state sales tax?

Alaska*, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon.

If you see an issue regarding the amount of sales tax you’ve been charged, please contact customer service.

*Sales Tax Collection in Alaska
As cities within Alaska update their sales tax laws and ordinances to adopt the Remote Sellers Sales Tax Code established by the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission, we may be required to collect sales tax on transactions with destination addresses within these cities. Please visit the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission website for more information and to learn about which cities in Alaska are participating.
